One enterprising eBay seller hit on a cunning plan to cash in on the excitement surrounding the wedding of Pippa Middleton and James Matthews. They got hold of a menu from the event, and put it on eBay. Unfortunately for them, Pippa's lawyers soon got wind of the plan.

The seller used the name "guarko84na" to list two menu cards – one marked "Pippa Matthews" and one "James Matthews". The description noted that there was a bit of food on the one marked 'Pippa', and that they had done an internet search and discovered that the menus were in the same style as the invitations had been.

They were marked up as royal memorabilia, with a starting price of £499.

It might have made an interesting collectible for an ardent Royalist, and offered an insight into what the couple served (trout with cucumber and horseradish cream to start, then lamb with lamb tortellini, aubergine pate and asparagus, followed by Cranachan cheesecake with honey).

However, despite the fact that the couple are currently honeymooning, The Sun reported that their eagle-eyed lawyers spotted the sale, and got in touch. The seller immediately took down the listing.

Pippa Middleton Collectible?

Anyone wanting a lasting memento from an almost-royal wedding still has a few options, however.

You can get your hands on bridesmaid and pageboy outfits that are the same as the ones worn by Princess Charlotte and Prince George. They are available from Spanish designer Pepa & Co, and come in at £374 for George's outfit and £498 for Charlotte's.

You can also track down Pippa's wedding dress. The original she wore for the ceremony was a one-off, but during the reception she changed into a Pronovias gown. Until someone leaks pictures from the reception, we don't know which one she chose, but plenty of people have pointed out a figure-hugging one that isn't a million miles from her bridesmaid's dress from her sister's wedding. A dress from the brand will set you back £1750 – £5250.

Alternatively, you could get London florist Lavender Green to recreate the table centrepieces - assuming you have a ceiling high enough to comfortably accommodate half a tree.

Finally, if your budget is less ample, if you didn't get round to buying one at the time, some people are actually selling off the souvenir supplements some of the newspapers and magazines published, featuring photos from the day. One optimistic seller has priced theirs at £7.99, while another has a bid of 99p plus postage.

But what do you think? Will you want a lasting memory of this wedding, or does 'almost royal' not really count? Let us know in the comments.
