Tories maintain commanding lead over Labour, says new poll

Updated

The Conservatives continue to enjoy a commanding lead over Labour despite seeing the gap narrow since the start of the election campaign, according to a new opinion poll.

The survey by ComRes for the Sunday Mirror and the Independent puts support for the Tories on 48%, with Labour on 30%.

That represents an 18 point lead for the Conservatives despite seeing a two point fall since the weekend, after Theresa May announced on April 18 that she was calling a snap election, while Labour is up five points.

The Liberal Democrats are down two points on 10% and Ukip are also down two on just 5%. The SNP on 4% and the Greens on 3% are both unchanged.

:: ComRes interviewed 2,007 GB adults online between May 10 and 12.
