The Easter break is almost here, meaning a few days off for most - and the chance of some time out and about with the family.

And while the costs can quickly add up, there's no need to panic, as there's a huge range of cheap or even free activities available around the country - here's ten of the best.

Nationwide
Kids' Workshops at Pets at Home

Book online for free workshops aimed at teaching children how to care for pets - and get the chance to play with them.

Easter egg hunts at Smyths Toys
This Saturday between 9am and 2pm at stores around the country. No purchase needed, but the number of eggs will be limited and only available while stocks last.

Party at Hamleys
Various times and dates at the Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin, Lakeside and Cardiff stores. Kids get to take part in a variety of Easter activities and games, and can get a selfie with Hamleys' Bunny Bear.

Cadbury's brings Dairy Milk production home to the UK

Cadbury's Easter egg hunts

London

These free workshops take place on Sundays - including Easter - at the National Gallery. You'll need to book 24 hours in advance.

Moomin Adventures, Kew Gardens
This Easter, kids go free with paying adults at Kew Gardens and can explore the magical Moomin Trail. There are loads of activities - and free chocolate.

Teachers earn £200k, and money comes from fairies

North East
Chocolate workshops, Centre for Life, Newcastle

Included in the normal ticket price this Easter are workshops allowing kids to learn about the science behind chocolate - with plenty of tasting, of course.

Wales
Open day, North Clwyd Animal Rescue, Holywell

On Friday, the rescue centre opens its doors, with stalls selling fresh produce and crafts, a raffle, and tombola. There's also a chance to visit the animals - and give them an Easter gift.

The most affordable Easter holiday destinations

Scotland
Easter trail, Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh

Kids can hunt for the missing ingredients for the Botanic Bunny's special chocolate - and then visit the chocolate tree. Admission to the garden is free, but visiting the tree will cost from £4.95 for adults with kids going free.

Midlands
McArthurGlen Designer Outlet East Midlands Easter trail

Kids can join an Easter Trail around the centre and keep a lookout for hidden animals in store windows - with a chocolate treat from Cadbury at the end. There will also be colouring competitions and garden games, and regular visits from the Easter Bunny.
