It surprised quite a lot of people when it was chosen as 2017´s City of Culture but US ambassador to the UK Matthew Barzun could clearly see the appeal all along.
That city is Hull and it's the place Barzun said he will remember the most fondly when he returns to Kentucky.
During his stint at the London embassy, he travelled all over the country, visiting a whopping 125 towns and cities in three-and-a-half years.
But he said it was the humble Humberside city that won his heart over the big flashy tourist traps.
Now Barzun's trip hasn't been completely free of controversy - he told Tatler that he was getting pretty sick of lamb and spuds (if that's even possible) after being served it "180 times" in his first year as ambassador.
So we gave him the chance to rebuild our trust by naming some of his favourite British things. And they were ...
Fav food? "Sticky toffee pudding is something I'm going to have to learn how to cook, because I'm hooked."
Fav football team? "At the risk of being undiplomatic, for me it's Liverpool Football Club."
Fav TV show? "I watch lots of the current ones. My absolute favourite - and it's a bit sweary I know - is The Thick Of It. I go back to that time and time again and it just makes me laugh, even though I'm fully aware that I miss a lot of the jokes as an American."
Some great choices there, we're sure you'll agree.
