A British man has reportedly died during a university ski trip in France.

He was found by friends in their accommodation in Val Thorens resort in the Alps on Sunday morning, local reports said.

Thousands of students from Oxford and Cambridge universities attend the popular annual Varsity ski trip, which dates back to 1921.

Nuco Travel, which runs the week-long trip, told Cambridge University news site Varsity: "Sadly one of our passengers passed away on Sunday 4th December 2016. At this time, to respect their family's and friends' privacy, we will not be commenting further."

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British national who died in France on 4 December. We are in contact with the local authorities."
