Prince Harry puts on 'foursome' batting display to defeat St Lucia PM

Prince Harry has given a batting performance worthy of the Caribbean's cricketing greats as he led a team to victory against the Prime Minister of St Lucia.

Harry's XI comfortably beat a team captained by Premier Allen Chastanet during an exhibition match in front of hundreds of school children.

The prince came to the crease towards the end of his team's innings in the six over match, and hit an unbeaten nine runs from three balls - including two fours - off the bowling of Mr Chastanet.

His swashbuckling display at the crease emulated the heroes of the West Indies and Harry's final four brought his team's total to 78 runs for the loss of three wickets.

When the Prime Minister's team began batting, they struggled to match the scoring rate of their opponents - and they only scored 54 for the loss of two wickets, losing by 24 runs.

The prince bowled an over, and with his last delivery the political leader swung at the ball and missed and was stumped by the wicket keeper.

The victory and Harry's impressive performance came despite the royal telling a guest last night at a welcoming reception: "I think my best cricketing days are over."

Harry is on a 15-day tour of the Caribbean and when he first arrived at the stadium, he was greeted by screaming school children - and he spoke a few words of Creole, the local language, telling them: "Sa ka fet st lee si, st lee si sa ka fet?" - how are you doing St Lucia, St Lucia how are you doing?

Wearing a bright yellow t-shirt, sunglasses, trousers and trainers, the prince joined his players for some batting and bowling practice before the game began.

He lost the coin toss and his team was put into bat - and he sheltered from the blazing sun under a marquee with his team mates as their opening batsmen walked to the crease.

Clapping and cheering whenever one of his players hit a boundary or a six, he kept up the morale of his squad as they piled on the runs.

St Lucia's greatest cricket player Daren Sammy was due to take part in the event but did not attend.
