Pay increased by 3% in July, study suggests

Pay increased by an average of 3% last month, although workers in northern cities enjoyed bigger rises, a study has found.

Firms in Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester paid the biggest wage rises in sectors including retail, legal and finance, said jobs site CV-Library.

Managing director Lee Biggins said: "The rise in salaries across the UK is a positive indication that businesses are pushing hard to attract the very best candidates and are not allowing pay to stagnate in the face of post-Brexit uncertainty.

"For job hunters, it is reassuring that organisations are recognising the need to make the right offerings, particularly as competition for talent is rife."
