Balcony Man's exchange with Munich gunman goes viral

The man who engaged in a battle of words with the Munich gunman has become an online sensation after a video of the exchange went viral.

Thomas Salbey, known as the "Balcony Man", threw an empty beer bottle at the gunman from his fifth-floor flat overlooking the Olympia shopping mall car park after hearing shots on Friday night.

The gunman, 18-year-old German-Iranian Ali Sonboly, turned to look at Salbey after hearing the bottle smash.

He shouted "I am German", to which Salbey replied: "You're a w****r is what you are."

Sonboly then shouted "Stop filming" and Salbey said: "A w****r is what you are. What the f*** are you doing?"

The gunman replied: "Yeah what, I was born here."

Salbey said: "Yeah and what the f*** you think you're doing?"
