Inquest to open into steel boss's penthouse plunge

An inquest is set to begin into the death of a steel company boss who was killed after plunging eight floors from his penthouse flat last year.

Angad Paul, 45, was pronounced dead after being discovered outside the property at Portland Place, central London on November 8.

The businessman's steel company Caparo had been enduring large-scale job cuts as administrators tried to salvage the firm.

Some 450 redundancies were announced at the company in October 2015 amid the collapse in steel prices.

Mr Paul was the son of Lord Paul, who founded the business in 1968 with a £5,000 loan and helped it grow into a multi-billion pound enterprise.

The group has interests in hotels, interior design and financial services as well as steel, according to its website.

Mr Paul had run the Caparo Industries subsidiary since taking over from his father in 1996.

Tthe Met Police said they were not treating his death as suspicious.

Outside of steel, Mr Paul was involved in a number of business ventures, ranging from the Caparo T1, which was the world's fastest supercar when it was launched in 2006 to being an executive producer on several Guy Ritchie films.

The inquest is due to begin at Westminster Coroner's Court, London.
