Police name cyclist, 73, who died after collision with HGV

A 73-year-old cyclist who died after she was in collision with a lorry has been named by police.

Barbara Phipps, of Lynsted, Kent, was involved in the accident involving the HGV on the A2 London Road at Teynham at 10.15am on Saturday.

Sergeant Hannah Brown, of Kent Police, said: "The HGV and the cyclist were both heading towards Sittingbourne when the collision occurred opposite the Swan pub.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to speak to anyone else who saw the incident and has yet to speak to us, or who saw the cyclist or the HGV prior to the collision."

The driver of the lorry, a 58-year-old man from Chelmsford in Essex, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop. He has been bailed until July 5 while police inquiries continue.
