Jeremy Kyle and wife Carla divorce in 20-second hearing

Updated

A judge has signalled the end of the marriage of television show host Jeremy Kyle after his wife complained about the presenter's "unreasonable behaviour".

Neither Kyle, whose ITV show is called The Jeremy Kyle Show and features couples embroiled in relationship difficulties, nor his wife Carla were at a family court hearing in London.

Judge Stephen Alderson granted a decree nisi at the hearing - which lasted about 20 seconds - in the Central Family Court.

Neither Kyle nor Mrs Kyle, who have been married for about 13 years, were in court.

Mrs Kyle was represented by solicitor Raymond Tooth, who said she did not wish to comment.

Paperwork filed by Mrs Kyle said she was petitioning for divorce on the grounds of Kyle's "unreasonable behaviour".

The marriage will formally end when a judge grants a decree absolute.

Mrs Kyle can apply for a decree absolute in about six weeks.

Kyle has four children - a daughter with his first wife Kirsty Rowley and two daughters and a son with Mrs Kyle.

The Jeremy Kyle Show website gives viewers contact details if they would like "Jeremy's help" or would like to be a guest.

Website readers are asked questions including "are you going through a bad break up or having problems with your ex?"

An "About Jeremy" section on the site quotes Kyle as saying: "What this show does is to give you perspective on your own life."

He is also quoted as saying that the "one thing I couldn't live without" is "my family".
