Two arrested in murder probe after body found with stab wounds

Updated

Two people are being questioned on suspicion of murder after a man's body was found with stab wounds.

The 56-year-old victim was pronounced dead at an address in Walsall Street in Willenhall, West Midlands, yesterday night.

Police said the alarm was raised by a member of the public at about 8.30pm, but detectives believe the man may have been dead for several hours.

A post mortem is due to be carried out tomorrow to determine the exact cause of death.

Following the discovery, West Midlands Police officers arrested a 37-year-old Walsall woman, of no fixed address, last night - while a 49-year-old man was also arrested from an address in St Giles Street, Willenhall, in the early hours of this morning.

Both are being held in police custody on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector Jim Munro, of West Midlands Police, said: "The body was discovered at 8.30pm following a call from a member of the public but we believe the man may have been dead for several hours.

"We've already spoken to many residents in Walsall Street but if anyone was in the area yesterday afternoon, and have not yet spoken to police, then I'd ask them to call me as soon as possible.

"It may be they saw or heard something suspicious, perhaps a disturbance or people leaving the scene, that could be important to the investigation."

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
