One Direction album Take Me Home named 'most unwanted item'

Updated

One Direction's second studio album Take Me Home has been named as "the most unwanted item" over the Christmas period, by musicMagpie.co.uk.

The boy band's 2012 album, which includes hits such as Live While We're Young, Kiss You and Little Things, was traded in to the recommerce specialist 31,468 times between Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

One Direction have released three more albums - one every year since Take Me Home.

The website, which buys unwanted items including CDs and DVDs for cash, also saw an influx of Adele's 2011 album 21 - with 25,897 copies bought from users. Adele's next and latest album 25, which is still number one in the chart, was released on November 20 this year.

The Lego Movie was the most unwanted film with 23,245 copies traded in, followed by Paddington with 20,358 DVDs bought by the site.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops III was the most-traded in game.

Liam Howley, marketing director at musicMagpie, which had a record number of trade-ins, with more than 2.3 million items bought over the festive 48 hours.said: "Christmas is always our busiest time of year as thousands of customers come to us to sell the items that have been replaced by newer gifts.

"Our CD and DVD trade-ins are always a good barometer of what or who is waning in popularity and this year's trade-in figures make for quite interesting reading, particularly for One Direction. Perhaps their tumultuous year has had more of an impact on their popularity than first thought? Have some of the early fans moved on? I guess time will tell when, or if, they make another album together."

2015 saw the departure of Zayn Malik from One Direction in March and the start of a hiatus for the remaining four - Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson - expected to last at least 18 months from the end of the year. Despite this, their latest album and first as a four-piece Made In The A.M. is still in the top 10 of the album chart.
