Family pays tribute to jogger who died after falling into path of lorry

The family of a jogger killed after falling into the path of an oncoming lorry have paid tribute to the "loving and caring father of two".

German businessman Jan Kroll, 31, who was working in the UK had been running on the grass verge in Wigan Road, Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, when he is believed to have fallen into the carriageway, police said.

His family said that he had been in the country on a business trip organised by his employer Dr. Oetker.

In a statement on behalf of Mr Kroll's family, it read: "Amongst his colleagues Jan was popular and appreciated for his dedication and knowledge.

"Jan will leave a huge void with his friends and family, who have always been his focus and priority. We will never forget his exceptional sense of humour, optimism and his positive attitude."

He leaves behind a two-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.

The accident happened on December 2 close to the junction of Shady Lane shortly before 7pm.

Mr Kroll suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
