Woman pedestrian, 61, killed in Birmingham rush-hour car crash

A 61-year-old woman has died after a rush-hour crash.

The pedestrian was struck by a white Vauxhall Astra near the Guru Nanak temple in the Handsworth area of Birmingham.

The local woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene in Soho Road shortly after the accident at 5.30pm on Friday.

West Midlands Police said the male motorist initially stopped and spoke to a number of people before driving away.

Police described the car as sporty, with a rear spoiler and black roof.

Sergeant Alan Wood appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident, saw the car or spoke to the driver to call him on 101.

He said: "The car would have suffered considerable front end damage, with the bumper hanging off, and I'm sure would have caught the attention of other drivers and pedestrians.

"I'd also urge the driver to do the decent thing and get in touch so that he can put across his side of the story."
