Virgin unwraps two blue trains for Christmas

Updated

Virgin Trains has unveiled two Christmas trains sporting a striking blue livery in place of the operator's traditional red.

The trains, which are emblazoned with penguins, snow and presents, will transport passengers on the West Coast and East Coast routes during the festive period.

The design was chosen following a competition of children's drawings.

The joint winners, Amber Maxfield, nine, from Carlisle, Cumbria and Madeleine Deakin, 11, from Copdock, Suffolk, were at London King's Cross station for the unveiling of the Christmas trains.

Virgin Trains chairman Patrick McCall said: "'We loved the concepts that these two young designers came up with and are proud to have their ideas transform two trains."
