Sex offender absconds from open prison

Updated

Police are hunting for a convicted sex offender who has absconded from an open prison.

Richard Anthony Lloyd, 33, was last seen at HMP Leyhill in south Gloucestershire at 5.45pm on Friday.

Lloyd is currently serving a custodial sentence for serious sexual offences, harassment and assault.

He is described as white, 5ft 8in, of proportionate build, with a shaved head.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "He has links to the Kidderminster, West Bromwich and Telford areas.

"He also may have connections with the Malvern area.

"Anyone who might have any information as to his whereabouts is asked to call us immediately on 101."

A Prison Service spokesman said: "Absconds from open prisons have fallen to a record low - down 75% on a decade ago.

"When an abscond takes place, we immediately contact the police and work with them to help ensure the offender is recaptured.

"Those who do abscond are returned to closed prison conditions when they are caught."
