Police hunt masked knifeman who demanded cash from girl, 9

A masked knifeman is being hunted by police after he approached a nine-year-old girl and demanded money.

The youngster was on her scooter on her way home from school at around 3.30pm when the man closed in on her along a cycle path near Hollis Close in Witney.

He asked her if she had any money and when she said no ran off in the opposite direction to Coggs Hill Road, Thames Valley Police said.

The man is described as 5ft 7ins and slim. He was wearing a black hooded top, black jogging bottoms, black gloves and a mask over his face showing his mouth and eyes.

Detective Sergeant Rob Hughes, said: "I want to reassure people that this is an isolated incident and we have had no other similar incidents reported to us in Witney.

"It is important that people remain calm but vigilant."

He also appealed for any witnesses or for anyone with any information about the attempted robbery to contact Thames Valley Police on 101 quoting URN 902 of 2 December, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
