Teenage murder victim named as Vasilaki Kakko

Updated

A boy who became the fourteenth teenager to be stabbed to death in London this year has been named by police as Vasilaki Kakko.

A murder investigation continues following the death of the 17-year-old, who was killed in Yoke Close in Holloway, north London.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 8.50pm on Monday, but Vasilaki was pronounced dead at the scene half an hour later.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died of a stab wound to the neck.

Although no formal identification has yet taken place, police said they are satisfied that the victim was Vasilaki, of Newington Green, north London, and his next of kin have been informed.

Officers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are continuing an investigation and are keeping an open mind about any motives that may have led to the teenager's death.

His death came exactly two weeks after the previous reported case of Alfie Stone, 18, in West Ruislip.

Vasilaki's brother, Bruno Kakko, 25, told the Evening Standard: "He was just a lovely, nice guy who was always happy and smiley and loved playing around a lot. He was always very generous to his friends and family.

"He loved going out a lot, he was not a stay-at-home type. We just can't get our heads round it at the moment. We have no idea who would target him."

Campaigners last weekend gathered to protest against knife crime and the Metropolitan Police embarked on a week-long crackdown on the issue last month.

Total knife crime offences resulting in injury across the city have risen by 270 cases over 12 months - from 2,524 between January and September 2014, to 2,794 this year.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to call the incident room on 020 8721 4961, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
