Dame Judi Dench and one leading man with no sense of humour

Dame Judi Dench has said all of the leading men she's acted with have had "glorious senses of humour" except for one.

She revealed the titbit when asked by Radio 4's Kirsty Young, as part of Desert Island Discs, who her favourite leading man has been.

She said: "I don't know the answer to who is my favourite leading man, except that all of them, bar one I think, had glorious senses of humour.

"And no, I'm not going to tell you who the one was."

Dench, now 80, started her acting career at the Old Vic Theatre near London's Waterloo station.

She has gone on to become a national treasure, winning countless Baftas and other accolades.

She married fellow actor Michael Williams, and the couple were wed for more than thirty years until Williams' death in 2001.

Their daughter, Tara Cressida Frances, is also an actress, and is better known as Finty Williams.

Dench chose Frank Sinatra's I've Got You Under My Skin and a Shipping Forecast as two of her desert island discs and she also asked if she could take along an audio machine, with a recording of her daughter reading Other Men's Flowers.

Dench disclosed earlier this year that her vision is deteriorating due to macular degeneration.

She reflects fondly on playing M in the Bond movies, saying it was "glorious memories".

"I didn't for a second ever imagine that I would play it, I was a huge fan of the Bond films - it was just the most glorious time," she said.
