A man is being treated for head and leg injuries after falling on to the track at Twickenham station and being hit by an oncoming train.

The station was closed for a period on Friday night as thousands of fans tried to make their way home from the opening game of the Rugby World Cup.

British Transport Police (BTP) said they were called to the scene around 11pm and the main was removed from the tracks around 20 minutes later and treated by paramedics.

Services in and out of the station have resumed, but South West trains warned passengers delays are expected.
