Chuka Umunna leaves shadow cabinet amid 'key points of difference on policy'
Chuka Umunna has left the shadow cabinet, he announced - blaming "key points of difference on policy" on areas such as Europe with new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
The former shadow business secretary said he did not want to be a "thorn in the side" of the new regime but could not accept the collective responsibility required of members of the top team.
In a statement released as Mr Corbyn began to put together a new frontbench line-up, he said: "We have both mutually agreed that it would be best for me to support his leadership from the backbenches."
It is understood that Mr Umunna was not offered a role by Mr Corbyn.
