David Cameron has sparked a backlash after being caught claiming people from Yorkshire "hated each other" during a visit to Leeds.

The Prime Minister was recorded making the unguarded comment while discussing rival devolution bids from within Yorkshire while visiting the city to make a speech on reform of public services.

During the conversation with an unnamed man, Mr Cameron told him: "We just thought people in Yorkshire hated everyone else, we didn't realise they hated each other so much," according to the BBC.

Mr Cameron was swiftly criticised on Twitter with users calling him "arrogant" and "toffee-nosed".
