The Stig of bus drivers beats the freeze

Public transport has taken a fair bit of criticism in the last few weeks after the snow rendered most of useless, and most of it was fully justified.

But praise must be dished out where it is due, and this bus driver in Teesside is rightly being hailed as a hero for his indomitable spirit. While a succession of cars failed to get up Saltburn Bank's hill, the Arriva bus calmly but determinedly made his way up the slope without hopelessly spinning sideways.

Arriva buses didn't name the driver, who has become something of a star on YouTube, but said: "We are very proud of our drivers' efforts during these treacherous conditions." Quite right too - Arriva bus driver, we salute you.
