London mayor Boris Johnson has announced that motorbikes will be allowed to continue to use the capital's bus lanes.
A trial period of 18 months was due to officially end in July, but Johnson has said that it can now continue for the time being.
"The chaos that was predicted by some doomsayers has clearly not materialised and, as I suspected would be the case, we have found substantial support for the measure," said the mayor.
Motorcycling groups have welcomed the news, with Chris Hodder of the British Motorcyclists Federation saying: "Continued access to bus lanes for riders in London is fantastic news. Obviously there is still a problem with driver awareness, but we are pleased to see that the Mayor has decided to address this with better advertising as a first step."
Groups have also called on the Department for Transport to extend the scheme so it is nationwide.
