Official Winner: Renault Clio

Autoblog Winner: VW Passat

This was only four years ago, which is hardly a lifetime. Yet, by 2009, the Clio was being rated by magazines as one of the least competitive superminis. Things have not changed that much in a few years: the Clio was merely a very average product that dated very fast. The recent facelift has helped a bit, but it is still nowhere near best-in-class. The Passat is hardly exciting but it is a good product that is still competitive today, which makes it a lot better than a Clio.
