A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a girl was raped at a beauty spot in Greater Manchester.

The victim was subjected to the attack at Hollingworth Lake in Rochdale at around 6.40pm on Wednesday, police said.

Officers attended the scene and arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of rape a short time later.

He remains in custody.

Greater Manchester Police said they were not looking for anyone further in connection with the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing PCs and forensics officers near the lake on Wednesday evening.

Detective Inspector Sam Taylor, from GMP's Rochdale district, said: "This was a shocking incident that was extremely distressing for the girl involved.

"Our thoughts are with her while she receives the specialist care and support needed.

"At this moment, we are not looking for anyone further in connection with this incident, however we will continue to be present in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

"Anyone who may have seen anything or has any information is asked to get in touch to assist with our investigation."

Hollingworth Lake attracts a large number of visitors daily and is managed by Rochdale Borough Council.
