While lazy Sunday mornings have long been the time of choice to get intimate with your other half, a new study has found that it’s been pipped to the post by Saturday evenings as the most popular time of the week to have sex.

The study, by Durex, found that Saturday evenings between 9pm and 11pm specifically are when the majority of Brits are having sex – and that the most popular day for self love is Wednesday.

Friday, however, is the top day for a threesome, as nearly one in five people (18%) who have had one said that it was their favourite day of the week for a ménage à trois.

The research also found that Brits are having sex an average of 81 times per year, have given or received oral sex 50 times in 12 months, masturbated 67 times, and had anal sex 16 times.

In terms of places and positions, 24% of people said they felt most aroused at the beach, while one in five (20%) have had sex in the counrtryside.

Missionary is the nation’s favourite sex position (35%), followed by doggy (32%), although men are more likely to prefer doggy over women.

It also found that summer was the top season for sex, with 42% saying that the warmer months are when they engage in intercourse the most.

Holidays also see an uptick in sexual activity, with respondents saying they engage in the most oral, anal, and partnered and solo masturbation during their breaks compared to any other time of the year.

Nikki Hayward, Category Marketing for Durex says: "Our data shows that as a nation, our sex schedules vary hugely, and nothing is out of bounds, so we want to enable people to get the most out of sex, whatever their preferred style."

The survey follows research from 2023 that found that 7.30am was the optimum time to have sex as male testosterone levels peak in the mornings, and any endorphins gained from the intercourse can boost your mood for the day ahead.
