Property: 9 incredible coastal homes to snap up

Théoule-sur-Mer

Every day could be a holiday if you switch to a home by the sea. According to the latest Halifax Seaside Homes Review, the average UK coastal property costs £304,460, and the priciest spot is Salcombe in Devon, where you’ll typically pay over £1.2m. "For many, owning a home by the sea is an aspiration, with coastal living offering beach walks, clean air and other health benefits, but this comes at a price," says Kim Kinnaird, Halifax’s mortgages director. "When we delve deeper, it’s clear that there is a broad spectrum in house prices. Whilst million-pound properties are abundant in the south west of England, in contrast, homes in Greenock in Scotland are valued on average at less than £100,000." Find something to suit your budget in this selection of seaside properties currently on the market.

It’s being sold subject to a 30 year lease from 2006, which incorporates a right to renew for a further 30 years and has been well-maintained. The only catch is that overnight stays aren’t allowed. Five-bedroom Belleview House is the central portion of a handsome B-listed Georgian property that was divided into three separate dwellings in the 1980s. The tall house opposite was built by the brother of the original owner to block his view of the sea after the pair fell out, but he wasn’t entirely successful as the upper floors gaze out over Cromarty Firth and the Sutors (the headlands at its entrance). Although perfectly liveable, it could do with modernisation. For sale through Galbraith.

3. Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire, offers over £600,000
