The best things in life may be free after all, as a kiss and cuddle is our favourite simple pleasure.
And while most complained they do not get enough of them, a smooch and hug topped the happiness list for more than half of people (56%).
Sharing a laugh with others came second in the poll, which discovered 87% of people like simple joys more when their budget is squeezed.
But money does bring us some pleasure – finding cash was voted seventh in the Happiness Index.
Steve North, of UKTV's W channel, behind the survey, said: "People can go to great expense to buy lavish gifts or go on outlandish holidays but, as often as not, we get intense pleasure from the simple things in life."

Age and kindness also impacted on our experiences of joy.
The poll of 2,000 adults found 97% agreed that helping others makes you happy, and that you appreciate every day pleasures more as you get older.
Mr North added: "With the cost of living rising at a faster pace than salaries, people are more conscious of budgets, focusing more on what really makes us happy."
