This is an odd time of year. Part of you is still in Christmas mode - looking forward to more sweet treats and fizz - while the other half is in New Year mode, and thinking that it could be time to do something about your festive spare tyre. Fortunately, whichever half of you wins out, we have the freebies to help you get stuck in for free.

Free Cava and cocktails
La Tasca is trying to tempt revellers to start the night with tapas. Its New Year's Eve menu comes with a free bottle of Cava for the table, plus one free La Tasca Spritz cocktail each - and buy-one-get-one-free on cocktails all evening. It could be a freebie-laden way to start your evening - although you'll need to book a table in advance because you might not be the only person who thinks of going out on 31 December.

Free 'congestion charge'
If you're planning a trip to London for sales shopping or the New Year, then there's one less thing to worry about, because the Congestion Charge is suspended between Boxing Day and 2 January. It will save you £11.50 a day - although if you're planning to park, you can still expect some hefty costs.

Free Park Run
The users of HotUKDeals.com have spotted that if you want to get fit this New Year, you can take advantage of a free, timed, 5k run in a park near you. You don't need to be super-fit to take part, there's lots of support from the marshals, and plenty of company to help you get into the swing of things.
