It's a bit of a far cry from number 9, Coronation Street - but the real-life home of late actor Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth in the ITV soap, is on the market for £400,000.

The detached four-bedroom dormer bungalow is in Ashton-Under-Lyne, not far from the ITV studios, and near the centre of the Greater Manchester town.

It is now on the market following the death of the star's wife, Alma, at the age of 70 last year.

Described by agents Reeds Rains as 'one of the most impressive properties to come to the market recently', it boasts a swimming pool, bar and large gardens with off-street parking, as well as a detached garage that's currently being used as a gym.

"The property enjoys a secluded position in a prestigious residential area close to the town centre and would suit a range of purchasers including large and growing families who are seeking a private and spacious home which is ready to move straight into," the agents say.

Beyond the entrance porch and hallway, the house has a lounge, conservatory, dining room, breakfast room and kitchen on the ground floor, as well as a shower room, bar/snug and master bedroom with large en-suite bathroom and sunken corner bath. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and a bathroom.

Unlike the actor's on-screen house, it lacks a pigeon coop.

During Tarmey's time at the house, he decorated the rustic, 1970s-style bar with photographs of his Corrie colleagues, and strung fairy lights up across the ceiling.

First appearing as Jack in 1979, he left the soap in 2010. He died two years later at the age of 71, suffering a heart attack at his holiday home in Tenerife. He had been married to Alma, his childhood sweetheart, for 50 years, and the couple had two children.
