How to pick up Prosecco for just £2.63

Well, here's something to celebrate: Sainsbury's has reinstated the combination of special offers that allows customers to pick up bottles of Prosecco for just £2.63 each.

The Italian fizz normally costs £9. But by 'code stacking' - combining three special offers - it's possible to pick it up for less than a third of the normal price.

Highlighted by Moneysavingexpert.com, the full saving is only available to first-time online shoppers - those already signed up will only be able to get the price down to £5.63.

Your first step is to find a bottle that's already discounted - such as the £9 Valdo Prosecco Marca Oro that's currently on offer for £7.50.

Next, order six bottles, to qualify for a further 25% discount.

Finally, new online customers can sign up for the service with the promotional code SCPPXTAM for £18 off their shop, as long as they've spent £60. If you don't want that much Prosecco, you can just add in your usual shop to make up the difference.

Make sure you tick the box marked 'no substitutions' - you don't want to be sent Bollinger instead - and check your basket before you place the order to make sure all the discounts show up.

Delivery costs between £1 and £6, but is free if you collect in a store.

"This means if you go for the £7.50 Valdo Prosecco Marca Oro, it's £33.75 for six bottles, so you'd need to spend £26.25 on groceries to reach the £60 minimum spend for the £18 off code," says Moneysavingexpert's Sarah Monro.

"That makes it effectively £15.78 for the six bottles of prosecco, or £2.63 per bottle (plus delivery if you can't pick up in a store for free) – a ridiculously cheap price."

The same trick can be used with any wine or champagne; although customers in Scotland will miss out, as multi-buy offers on alcohol aren't legal there.

This isn't the first time that code stacking has led to ridiculously low prices at Sainsbury's. However, last time customers tried the trick, in May, Sainsbury's told them that it had all been a mistake, and insisted on charging a higher price - even for customers who had already placed their order.

This time, though, the supermarket says it really will honour the deal - so get down there while stocks last.
