Do you love the taste of a pricey bottle of wine? If so, you're not the only one, but we're guessing it's pretty unlikely you've ever spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on a fancy bottle of plonk!

Well, some people have done and here we've taken a look at the five most expensive bottles of wine ever sold.

However, if you're looking to join the large community of wine collectors around the world, you might want to start out with something a little cheaper than these bottles!

5. 1879 Chateaux Margaux - £155,377

That's how much insurance was paid to a wine merchant after he dropped a bottle once owned by Thomas Jefferson.

4. 1869 Chateau Lafite - £160,689

It was originally only worth $8,000, but a bidding war at an auction led to the hefty price tag.

3. 1907 Heidsieck - £189,905

About 1,000 bottles were discovered under a Swedish freighter sunk by a German u-boat in WW1.

2. 1947 Cheval-Blanc - £209,932

An anonymous buyer bought the bottle at a Christie's auction.

1. 1992 Screaming Eagle Cabernet - £345,283

The very rare bottle is about 6 litres and was sold at the Napa Valley Wine Auction in 2000 where all the money from the purchase went to charity. According to The Wine Cellar Insider the 1992 edition of Screaming Eagle was actually the debut vintage for the wine. It's thought that the current price for a bottle of the famed wine is around $7,000 per bottle.
