A single mother of three won $200 dollars on a scratch off lottery tickets and decided to do something rather unexpected with her winnings.

She generously helped a homeless man who was freezing on the streets get to a warm shelter.

Sofia Andrade from Massachusetts had just discovered she'd won when she saw Glenn Williams on the side of the road with a 'help me' sign, and she decided to do just that.

At first she asked to take him to coffee and get something to eat but she then realised that he had nowhere to stay for the night and temperatures were plummeting towards minus eight degrees.

Once she had found out that all local shelters were full Sofia decided to put him up for three nights in a local motel, but she didn't stop there.

She then went on to set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to give Glenn a solid footing to re-start his life.

Within a few days of creating the page she had collected more than $6,800 from anonymous donors!

Sofia told WCVB 5: "I knew that the money never really belonged to me, this money was meant to help him."

Other locals were keen to get involved with a barber giving Williams a haircut and other donating clothes to keep him warm in the icy temperatures.

Speaking of what Sofia had done Williams said: "I couldn't believe there's somebody like her. She deserves a lot of the credit for where I am right now."

He added: "There's a lot of good people in this world, I'm overwhelmed with all the help, and I just want to thank everybody."
