'Hidden cost of flying' highlighted by Eurostar's online calculator

Updated

Eurostar has launched an online calculator which claims to highlight "the hidden cost of flying".

The cross-Channel rail operator warned the average additional cost per trip for airline passengers taking more than hand baggage is over £32.

Travellers can use the calculator to work out the cost of a trip from central London to Paris or Brussels depending on how many bags they will take.

A Eurostar-commissioned poll of 3,000 adults from the UK, France and Belgium highlighted that many people do not want to leave home comforts behind when they go overseas.

Almost half of British travellers (49%) take their own tea bags with them, while more than a third (36%) pack their slippers.

An average of 13 bathroom cabinet essentials are taken on trips.

Just 16% of Britons take their sporting and gym clothes abroad, compared to 60% of French people.

The survey also found the average 25 to 34-year-old packs a minimum of six gadgets for a week-long break.
