Coastal and rural areas 'cold spots' for youth careers

Updated

Young people in coastal and rural regions face some of the worst provision of careers and enterprise support, according to a report.

A study by the Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) identified "cold spots" in England, including Cornwall and the Black Country.

The best areas included Warwickshire and Thames Valley, said CEC, which was established by the Government to support enterprise and careers provision in England.

Chief executive Claudia Harris said: "Our report reveals the provision of enterprise and career skills is not consistent for all young people in England.

"With youth unemployment stubbornly remaining three times the average national rate, this must change."

The study will be used by CEC to allocate its £5 million investment fund.
