Black Friday is a phrase that conjures up images of hoards of people fighting over stacks of cut price technology, clothes and accessories in a desperate quest for a massive bargain.

Last year the UK entered into this tradition with enthusiasm, when the retail discount day made its way over from the United States and quickly swept the nation. There was plenty of footage of scuffles breaking out as customers took desperate measures to secure their deals.%VIRTUAL-ArticleSidebar-black-friday%

This year, however, it seems we gave up the mad dash to the shops in the hope of bagging discount deal. Instead we stayed in the comfort and safety of our homes and trawled the net to tick people off the Christmas list. It seems a much more civilised and sensible route - with a far lower chance of injury (unless you fall of the sofa in your excitement).

Meanwhile, in the US, chaos continued to reign. Just take a look at this footage to see how serious people are about saving on the other side of the pond.

The compilation shows crowds of people in shopping malls all over the country fighting over everything including who got their hands on the last pair of Nike Jordan trainers.

One TV-mad shopper can even be seen taking a swipe at a police officer trying to control the crowds, while a Walmart store in Texas witnessed a stampede of shoppers surge into the store in search of discount flat screen TVs.
