It's not a problem the real Batman has ever had to face - having his beloved Batmobile sold out from under him.

But one Michigan Batman fan's superpowers failed him when the girlfriend he was cheating on put the car - which is in her name - up for sale on Craigslist last week.

It has to be said that he was doing well up to then, getting one girlfriend to buy the car and another to pay for kitting it out.

"It is in my name, but I got it for my ex, who turned around and got all the extras paid for by his side chick," explains scorned woman Amy Estrada in the listing.

"I need to sell this Nitro, I cannot afford to keep it, nor do I want to look at it anymore."

Headed 'Cheating Boyfriend Batmobile Nitro', the ad now offers the car at a reduced price of $15,000 ($9,800).

The modified 2007 Dodge SUV is said to be in excellent condition, and boasts a matte black paint job with silver Batman logos and special seat covers. It comes complete with Bluetooth and a touch-screen entertainment system that plays CDs and films.

"When you open the driver and passenger door, a batman logo shines down on the ground," says Amy. "If you are a Batman freak, this is the Batmobile for you."

For good measure, she's put a sign on the car reading: "When you are a liar and a cheater and an abuser and you have your side chick pay to trick out, customize and paint your 'Batmobile' your girlfriend (ex) who worked her ass off to get you that vehicle has it re-poed!! Bye, Batman!"

Betrayed partners often try to get their revenge by hitting their ex where it hurts. Last year, Orkney builder Paul Lawton demolished the house he owned with his ex-girlfriend, rather than let her walk away with half.

Perhaps most famously, Lady Sarah Graham Moon saw red in 1992 when her husband moved in with his girlfriend. She cut off the arms of all his Savile Row suits, poured paint on his BMW, and gave away his vintage wine collection by leaving bottles on her neighbours' doorsteps.

It's worth remembering, though, that this sort of revenge can be counter-productive. If you steal or damage your ex's personal property, they may be able to sue - and in the case of a divorce, your ex's solicitor may be able to cite your actions as evidence of unreasonable behaviour.
