Watching your favourite TV programme can be a great way to spend a night in, but not if it's inundated with adverts like most TV channels these days.

You can't even get through a YouTube video without having to watch some kind of advertising. But don't worry because there is an answer... sign up to Netflix!

Thanks to some research we know just how much of our time cable companies waste with commercials.

According to a survey, those with Netflix stream content for an average of 90 minutes a day, and it's all free of those annoying ads.

In the US, cable airs 15 minutes and 38 seconds of advertisements for every hour of television screened. Sound like a lot? Well it is.

For 90 minutes of commercial TV, you'll spend 23 minutes and 30 seconds watching ads, that's 26% of the time.

This averages out to an average of nearly 6 days a year watching commercials, this means you save about 142 hours of your time by using Netflix.
