'His-and-hers' houses up for sale

Every detail is mirror image

The exterior

Two brand-new houses new on the market are a perfect mirror image of one another, right down to the interior decor.

The two new-build properties in London's Kensington, measure 5,535 square feet, and cost £12.75 million each. Designed to fit in with the area's existing villas, they have a classic appearance from outside, with high ceilings and large windows. Inside, the decor is a mixture of traditional and modern.

Each of the six-bedroom, five-bathroom homes features a basement leisure level with a media room and swimming pool complex with steam room, along with a staff bedroom suite.

The basement pool

Both houses have Sonos multi room hifi, Lutron lighting, a ground source heat pump and air cooling to the bedrooms, and there's temperature-controlled storage for 200 bottles of wine.

The double reception room in each house features a Crittall glazed wall and French windows onto a terrace that overlooks a 1,000-square-foot south-west facing garden - designed by Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist Philip Nixon.

There are three reception rooms, and the lower ground floor is a huge open plan kitchen/dining/family room with a Bulthaup fitted kitchen.

A living room

"It is the living arrangement favoured by the vast majority of families in London and yet so hard to reproduce due to the restrictions of London housing," says agent Russell Simpson.

Located on the smart Phillimore Estate, the houses are a short walk from Kensington High Street's bars and restaurants, with both Holland Park and Kensington Gardens Tube within easy reach.

The agents say that the properties may both be snapped up by a single buyer, possibly to house a large family from the Middle East. Alternatively, they could be perfect for a couple that want to live together but apart, as did Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton while they were married.
