Fancy practising your swing on a golf practice area and driving range designed by golfer Rory McIlroy - and doing it every day?

Well, if you've got £2.5 million to spare, now's your chance. Once owned by the sporting star, the contemporary property on Hillsborough Road, on the edge of Belfast, stands in 15 acres.

Seven of these are accounted for by award-winning gardens with a natural fresh-water pond and meandering illuminated walkways.

"The remaining eight acres feature a professionally created golf practice area with four greens; two bent grass to US PGA standard, and two greens of fescue grass similar to those on the European tour," say agents Simon Brien.

There's also a golf driving range with various tee and green positions, and a Fifa-standard astroturf putting green, complete with golf practice area. For tennis enthusiasts, there's a floodlit all-weather court, though this is currently covered by a 3G artificial grass five-a-side pitch.

Inside, the 7,200-square foot house has five reception rooms and five ensuite bedrooms. Here, things have changed since McIlroy moved out two years ago. The present owner, believed to be property developer Gary McCausland, has redesigned the house to create several large reception areas for entertaining, alongside more functional family accommodation.

"On entering the reception hall, one is immediately drawn to the opulent spaciousness of the property, together with the dual aspect of each of the reception rooms enjoying magnificent views over the manicured grounds and surrounding countryside," say the agents.

"There is a substantial state of the art 'Bulthaup' fitted kitchen with a casual dining area, off which there is a large utility room."

And if the house isn't already big enough for you, there's planning permission in place for a swimming pool, spa, gym and staff quarters. There's also scope to add another three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and dressing rooms above the annex.

We recently reported on another house for sale with a golf course in the grounds - a Los Angeles estate designed and owned by Bob Hope. It's up for sale at $23 million.

But even one of the greatest golf courses in the world wasn't enough to enable one house to reach its asking price. The Whitehouse, a mansion actually within the grounds of Gleneagles, was once expected to become Scotland's most expensive property, with an asking price of £8 million - but eventually sold this spring for just £861,888.
