There was once a time when fridges and electric ovens were new-fangled oddities that no-one thought would ever catch on.
It wasn't so long ago that we felt the same way about smartphones, apps and tablets. It's amazing how quickly we find ourselves unable to live without something that once seemed like a pointless gimmick.
So while the breakthroughs of today may seem like crazy inventions that will never become part of our everyday lives, you have to ask: will there ever come a time when we all have a dog umbrella, pram/scooter hybrid, or the door that transforms into a ping pong table?
