Signs of Autumn

As autumn sneaks up on us, we have a whole new range of freebie requirements: we need free moisturiser to fight wind-burned skin, days out and free wine to keep our spirits up, and free maps and ebooks to keep us entertained while we take a mini-break somewhere where Autumn is a far less painful experience. Fortunately we have the freebies to help with almost all of this - although we're yet to stumble across a free holiday just yet.

Free Nivea cream
If you sign up for the Nivea newsletter through Facebook, you'll get a free 25g tub of Nivea Soft. The newsletter promises to 'keep you in the loop' with exciting things like new launches and skin care advice - which could be a bit tedious - but promises offers and competitions too - which is a bit more useful for the dedicated bargain-hunter.

Free days out
The Free Heritage Open Days are running this year from 11-14 September. All sorts of buildings will be open to the public that you'd never normally be able to see - from some of the secretive cabbies' shelters in London, to a working water mill in Birmingham, and the rooftop of the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool. The users of HotUKdeals.com point out that for most of them you can just turn up for free entry, but that for some you'll need to to phone in advance and book, so it's worth getting organised in advance.

Free wine
For this Saturday only you could qualify for a free bottle of wine at Strada. You'll need to register, there will need to be at least two adults eating (although they can choose from pizza, pasta or salad), and you can only use one voucher per table. However, the wine is Il Padrino red, white or rosé, which usually costs about £15 at the restaurants, so it's a nice freebie. You'll also have to state which Strada you plan to visit before you get your voucher, and some are excluded, so prepare to be a bit flexible on location.

Free ebooks
WHSmith is giving away a huge array of ebooks, which are well-worth checking out. There's fiction ranging from Jackie Collins and Kate Harrison, to crime thrillers, horror, children's books, and Mills and Boon. Some of the books are free samples of a few chapters, and others are short stories, but there are full-length novels for free on offer too.

Free Map
KLM Airlines has come up with a cunning freebie, revealed by the users of Hotukdeals.com. The idea is that you choose your destination, then share it with your friends on social media, and between you, you can add all sorts of lesser-known attractions to the map for you to visit during your break. Once your map is completely personalised, you go back into the map and select the option to have it printed. The airline will then print it off and deliver it to your home within three weeks. If you're not that organised, and don't have three weeks before you travel, you can at least see it online and add notes to any existing maps before you go.
