The tiara worn by Victoria Beckham at her wedding is set to fetch up to £25,000 when it goes under the hammer today.

Jewellery designer Slim Barrett said his inspiration for the coronet-style headpiece came from his love of Eastern design and Parisian haute couture, which he decided to blend in the gold and diamond creation entitled East of Paris.

The singer and fashion designer - then Victoria Adams - chose to wear it at her lavish wedding to David Beckham in July 1999. It has now been put up for sale by Barrett and is estimated to sell for between £18,000 and £25,000.

The fairy-tale piece, which was exhibited by the Victoria and Albert Museum in their 100 Tiaras, Past and Present show, is made from 18-carat yellow gold, set with large brilliant-cut diamonds and suspended diamond drops.

It was commissioned for the Beckhams' wedding but was then kept by Barrett, who has collaborated with Chanel, Versace and John Galliano and designed pieces for Sir Mick Jagger and Diana, Princess of Wales.

The tiara is being sold as part of Bonhams' auction of fine jewellery in New Bond Street, London, this afternoon.

Forty of the lots in the sale are jewels from the collection of author Barbara Taylor Bradford - with one of the star items being a single stone diamond ring expected to reach between £330,000 and £430,000.

Taylor Bradford, writing in the auction catalogue, explained she decided to sell the pieces, all presents from her "darling husband" Robert, to provide their heirs with a "nest-egg".

She said: "I really want these stunning pieces of jewellery to give someone else the joy that they have given me. I want the jewellery to live again.

"Bob suggested that if we sold them, we could give our heirs a nest-egg with the proceeds. I've had a wonderful marriage and I can offer these jewels at auction because I still have the man who gave them to me."

The pair are set to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary later this month.
