Pioneer is to return to the European television market under an exclusive distribution deal with PC World and Currys owner Dixons Retail.
The roll-out will see Pioneer TVs sold in the Nordic region next month, with an aspiration to extend into the UK market in future. It will represent the T okyo-based company's first new television launch in Europe in five years.
Dixons Retail, which announced the partnership with Pioneer today, is also reported to be preparing for the launch of its own £180 tablet computer.
The Mail on Sunday said the Advent Vega Tegra Note 7 will go on sale from Friday. It will be cheaper than the £250 Apple iPad mini but more expensive than tablets with 7 inch screens being sold by other retailers.
A source told the newspaper: "We have deliberately kept away from that low end of the market."
The tie-up with Pioneer, which specialises in car and home electronics, has seen Dixons Retail granted the exclusive rights to source, develop, produce and sell Pioneer TVs in selected European markets.
Dixons Retail chief executive Sebastian James said: "We are very excited to be working with Pioneer, a legendary brand in the world of technology, on its return to the European TV market."
