Britain's financial watchdog has suffered an embarrassing setback with the collapse of a long-running prosecution involving the owner of Barnsley Football Club and an IT firm, costing taxpayers millions of pounds.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) decided to drop the case against Patrick Cryne and three other former directors of iSoft after procedural problems caused the trial to grind to a halt.
