Stores' own products overtake brands

Cost-cutting consumers have led supermarkets to boost their own-brand product ranges with investment in own-products overtaking that of well-known brand names for the first time.

The latest research from Mintel reveals that for the first time, in 2011, the proportion of own label new product development (NPD) overtook branded in the UK.
