Third of firms 'plan to recruit'

Updated:
TraderMore than a third of firms plan to hire staff in the new year, although many intend to take on part-timers, according to new research.

A survey of more than 300 companies found that almost one in three of those aiming to recruit will target part-time staff.

Recruitment agency Women Like Us said its study found that four out of five large businesses and 38% of small firms said they employed at least one part-time senior manager or director.

Most of those recruiting part-time staff said they valued hiring experienced workers.

Karen Mattison, co-founder of Women Like Us, said: "Hard economic times force businesses to become sharper and more innovative.

"Rather than freezing recruitment, employers are hiring in experienced senior candidates who only want part-time work. We have had our most successful quarter ever - clearly more and more firms are thinking through job structure, and whether a role can work flexibly or not, before they recruit."
