10. Investment Trusts

There are around 400 investment trusts in the UK, valued at about £50bn in total. Like unit trusts and OEICs, investment trusts are often categorised into country and regional funds, and sub-divided further into funds that invest only in certain industry sectors.

There is also a sub-category of investment trusts called 'split capital investment trusts'. These were the centre of a major scandal a few years ago. Because they are somewhat of a specialist area and relatively small in number we're ignoring them for the purposes of this article.
